KIDS BAKING CHALLENGE:
NOVEMBER 5th: 🍪 The Ultimate Cookie Challenge! 🍪
Think you can bake the best cookie in town? In this challenge, 4 teams of 2 will have 2 hours to dream up, mix, bake, and present their very own signature cookie from scratch. Bring your best recipe and ingredients—whether it’s classic chocolate chip with a twist, loaded with candy mix-ins, or a totally original flavor combination. The only rules – must be a cookie, must make 12, must be from scratch (no boxes). Other than that, the creativity is all yours!
DECEMBER 3RD – 🧁 Holiday Cupcake Wars! 🎄✨
Get ready to bake, frost, and decorate your way to holiday glory! In this challenge, teams will have 2 hours to create a dozen cupcakes inspired by a Christmas theme—think winter wonderlands, holiday lights, or your favorite seasonal treats. The only rules are: must 12 cupcakes with frosting. Flavor, decorations or special touches are up to you!
Bring your best recipe, ingredients, and decorations—get creative with flavors, colors, and toppings! Space, oven and basic tools are provided
Cupcakes will be judged blind by a panel of peers on:
– Creativity & theme execution
– Taste & texture
– Overall presentation
Judging & Scoring
Cookies will be judged blind by a panel of peers (and some adults). Each team will be scored in three categories:
- Taste – flavor and texture of the cake (1–10 points)
- Presentation – overall look, neatness, and “wow” factor (1–10 points)
- Creativity/Decoration – originality, design, and effort (1–10 points)
Each judge can award up to 30 points per team. Who will rise to the top and claim the title of Star Baker!?
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 17TH:
🚀 Hands-On Science Adventure! 🧬🦴
Thanks to Sophia Kottke, from ASU’s Human Origins and Center for Evolution department, who gave us us a peek into the world of anthropology and life in the lab.
✨ What Happened:
- Extract DNA from a banana! 🍌🧪 Learn how scientists collect primate samples in the field.
- Hands-on archaeology demo! 🏺 A second ASU student joined us to talk about how bones differ in primates
